Weekly Cookout
What started as a weekly BBQ on the Vale (the freshman housing area of campus) became a weekly cookout in front of the Canvas House. Students walking back from Uni on Thursdays can stop for a free burger and crisps, hangout for a bit on Tiverton Road, and hopefully decide to stop by the Canvas House again later that night for Poker & a Film Night.
Poker & a Film Night
Students are starting to make Canvas a part of their week. Poker & a Film Night is a great non-threatening way to connect with the Canvas community. Whether it is a game of poker, Taboo, Scategories, mafia, or a film - students love to play at the Canvas House.

On Fridays the Canvas guys rent out a gym on campus and play pick-up games of basketball. The Canvas team is happy that guys who don’t feel comfortable stepping inside the Canvas House have no problem stepping onto the court.
As a one-off event, some of the Canvas folks and friends went to watch the University of Birmingham American football team play. It was not like going to a college football game in the states. Much more like junior high JV - but there were cheerleaders.
Students walking by the Canvas House any Monday morning between 8-10am are greeted with a free cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. The fairtrade hot beverages are ready for take-away in an orange cup complete with Canvas logo.It is just another way of reminding students we are present, active, and generous. (Just in case you are wondering, yes, we use instant coffee. Maybe one of these days we will spring for a real coffee maker. Maybe.)
